Task 6 BARB

BARB
BARB is a company that records all the views of TV channels and there progammes. They do every channel that is broadcasted on British television, every single one from ITV2 to Animal planet. All this is very useful for broadcasters. BARB is responsible for providing estimates of the number of people watching television. This includes which channels and programmes are being watched, when they are watched and the type of people who are viewing at any one time. Viewing data is collected second-by-second and delivered on a minute-by-minute basis for channels received within the UK. The channel viewed the longest in a clock minute is attributed the viewing of that minute. Viewing at anything other than normal speed (fast forwarding/rewinding live or recorded content) is not reported. The data is available for reporting nationally and at ITV and BBC regional level. But problems with this is that it records when you or someone else flicks through the channels but the good thing it records how many people watch it in a day. But there is a photo below showing  the views in certain week.
The way BARB classifys is that they profile by.

·         Standard Occupational Classification (sometimes called Social Grade by advertising companies)
·         Psychographics
·         Geodemographics
·         Age
·         Gender
