Task 4 identifying problems

Identifying problems for my advert is because it is important to because we have make sure that it doesn't offend and harm anyone. With the record traffic near the road is dangerous so what we would do is that we would have someone stand by the road to be look out so that they can watch for any traffic to make sure we a safe and he would shout out if they saw any traffic. When it came to the dog only the owner of the dog can handle it so that it couldn't harm any that it didn't know. Plus with the dog what we did is that we didn't overwork the dog and we gave the dog water so that the dog wasn't dehydrated.

With the general public we have to make sure that they don't get into our shots because they would dislike being in the advert without there own permission, so what we would do is corner off the street where we are recording so that the public don't get into our shots. Also another problem we have is gaining permission so what we have to do is get the permission from the artist music who made the music. And finally we have to make sure that we don't promote any fake advertising in my our advert so we have to make sure we promote all the things that the beats actually do.

Task 3 Provisional findings

Advert research.

In this task Im needed to find out and research about my own advert then be able to pitch it to my whole class. One of the jobs i have to do is that i have to find out how much all the equipment, setting and actors cost as well as explaining the use of the advert and how it would intrege the customer to buy the product i am advertising.

Camera package:
What i have found on the internet is that I have found a package deal on a certain website that offer video cameras within London (http://www.londonvideocamerahire.co.uk/camera_hire.html) and this camera hire company offers me this package for 7 days, which the company gives me this whole package deal with a tripod, camera, batteries and even a mic as well. This deal seems very cheap and well worth investing in to produce the advert, there is an image bellow showing the deal and the price.

Lighting:
We might have to use lighting, the only reason for this is because we might have to use the lighting to shine off the beats headphones. Also it would be better if we done a winter look in the advert only because it is basically christmas and winter now so it would be better to persuade the public to buy the Beats headphones now.

Costumes and props:
For costume and props all that is really needed is people dressed in normal clothes for the advert so  either they can provided them self with them or can do that as well but on for a cheap set of clothes so the clothes should only come up to the amount of £100. What else is needed is the actual beats that shall be in our advert. What I have got is an pair already.

Actors and actress:
Actors we need to get only have four of them. This is mainly because the advert wont be based around the actors, it shall mainly be based on the Beats by Dre because that is the product we are trying to sell. So we would only need the actors for some hours a day so we would need to rent them out an hour, so i have found out on the internet that we could rent out 4 actors for £50 an hour.

Adverts Ideas Task 2

For my advert ideas what I have in mind is:
Brussels
Potatoes
Dog food
Dog's for sale
Couche's for sale

The main two ideas that I have is brussels and potatoes.
But the one i shall do is brussels because i have a main idea around it. What i shall do is baically base the brussels advert like a child abuse advert so it is basically a parody of them types of adverts.
we have decided to use brussels cause we have generated an idea about the because it is very close to christmas. Also the reason we wanted to do an advert for it is because there has never really been an advert about adverts about brussels sports so I thought we could be the first.

Once I have decided That I was doing Brussels sprouts for my advert I had to do a story board and that is currently at the bottom of the post.
After I finished working with this storyboard and doing more work on this idea, I decided that it would be better if I changed the idea for my advert. What I decided to do is change my advert on for Dre Beats, here is the storyboard that I drew, This was a better idea to do because the brussels idea was harder to make. This idea is more simple and easier to make.

Planning Task 1 Target audience survey

In order to find out about my product and it audience, i have made a survey which I have made below for people to fill out.

Task 1 results from the survey.

This post is talking about the primary research that I done about the headphones. I have taken screenshots from the results and posted them below.

As these results show that 60% of the responses of this survey are male while only 40% are female, this shows that males seem more interested about headphones. Another question that is shown is I asked how old the people doing this where and most where between the age of 18-24 this also provides us with the knowledge that most of headphones users are of the younger age, also the next question ask what is there favourite headphones company and majority chose beats by dre saying it there favourite brand. The last add was asking what is there favourite type of advert and most said comedy was there favourite type of advert.

Following my research the advert I'm gonna to create is that it shall be about beats headphones and it shall be in an comedic style.

Assignment 1 task 1 Market research

For this post I will be researching the market of headphones because I am making an advert for beats headphones.

I have been looking on the internet and researching headphone adverts on the internet, what I have seen and found out is that there isn't many headphone adverts. There are many different adverts for beats, a product which I am going to advertise. But other then beats adverts there aren't many other head phone advert, the only other advert I found was an ministry of sound headphones, which is bellow.

I found an another advert for a pair of headphones which was skullcandy plus i found another for beats, what the promotes is a different version of beats headphones. So I can still make the advert without restrictions.

Task 7 Sources of information in advertising

There are large amount of sources of advertising. The reason they need large amounts of advertising is because the of large amounts of advertising they have multiple leads to go off.

Advertising companies gather information by researching things like the product there gonna  advertise. Another example is that they would go on look on a websites like BARB for information about what people watch because it records the views on certain channels and programs

As well as advertising companies looking at websites at BARB they also look at things called rate card which profilings from channels like ITV and BBC on these rate show how much it cost to broadcast an advert during a break, with the rate cards you can work out how much it would cost you to advertise your advert during a certain time. Rate cards are very important to advertisers.

This is one of ITV rates cards and it shows all of the prices.

Task 6 BARB

BARB
BARB is a company that records all the views of TV channels and there progammes. They do every channel that is broadcasted on British television, every single one from ITV2 to Animal planet. All this is very useful for broadcasters. BARB is responsible for providing estimates of the number of people watching television. This includes which channels and programmes are being watched, when they are watched and the type of people who are viewing at any one time. Viewing data is collected second-by-second and delivered on a minute-by-minute basis for channels received within the UK. The channel viewed the longest in a clock minute is attributed the viewing of that minute. Viewing at anything other than normal speed (fast forwarding/rewinding live or recorded content) is not reported. The data is available for reporting nationally and at ITV and BBC regional level. But problems with this is that it records when you or someone else flicks through the channels but the good thing it records how many people watch it in a day. But there is a photo below showing  the views in certain week.
The way BARB classifys is that they profile by.

·         Standard Occupational Classification (sometimes called Social Grade by advertising companies)
·         Psychographics
·         Geodemographics
·         Age
·         Gender

Task 5 Unit 30 Types of research

It is important to conduct research for your future advert because if you don't you may get things wrong and actually cause problems.
But there are many types of different reseach you can do to help you.

The three major types of research
Audience research    (Who?)
Market research        (What?)
Production research  (How?)

Audience research
Audience research is when the researchers study the buyers and the people who will watch the advert. Another thing is that they will look into where the audiences lives so that they don't sell things tractors in london. Or maybe finding how much people earn in a certain area so then they don't promote a product in that certain area what people can't afford.

Market research
When it comes to to market research you need to know how much of that product or style of advert is already out there because you don't want to go into already large market of it. The reason you do this is because if you do then you shall be going up all kinds of competitors. Or maybe theres a lot of types of those products on the market.

Production research
Production research is when you look on the market to see how it is doing on the market and how would your product do and if people would like it.

Then comes general research to help with the 3 types of research these are:

Four main types of research

  • Primary research; primary research is when you research the product that you are going to be advertising. The pros of researching yourself is that you know exactly what you are looking for. but the cons are that it could take long and be irritating  find the right information.
  • Secondary research; secondary research is when you are using someone else's research but making little changes to it. The pros of using secondary research is that it is quick and you can focus on more important things. But the cons of using secondary research is that the information could be all wrong and you would have to spend longer looking for more information.
  • Quantitative research; quantitative research is when you're talking about numbers such as the audiences age or their gender. The pros of quantitative is that you will be able to find the basic information very easily. The cons of quantitative research is that you might not be able to receive the information because of confidentiality of some of the audiences.
  • Qualitative research; qualitative research is when you find out personal information about the audience to find out if your product is going to be suited the right audience. The pros of using qualitative research is that you can find the best audience for your product. The cons of qualitative research is that it is going to be time consuming to try and find the answers out.

ASA, OFCOM and banned adverts. Task 4

Task 4

The ASA is the company that watches over the adverts in the UK... If the adverts dont meet the standards of there regulations they can ban that advert. ASA protects us from multiple promblems with Adverts like the too violent ones, too sexual or the misleading ones from the public. Also with OFCOM they represent the ideas of the public and they have the ability to fine and restrict compacts if the public seem to have a problem and protecting them from things that can harm the public, for example they can help the ASA to ban adverts for the interest of the public.

Banned Adverts.
There have been many banned adverts over the years for things like they where misleading, too sexual, too violent, offending an certain type of people or religion and finally it even could be to frightening or distressing for the public. The reason these are ban so it doesn't offend the public and mentally scar children or the elderly.

Example:

The reason this advert is banned because of multiple problems and offending things it presents. The first it does is offend a certain type of people, The chavs as they refer to them in this advert the reason the public may not like it is because it may seem like them and in the advert he says offensive sentences like 'No down you go my orange friend'. The second thing is that it seem quite violent and distressing because he has a gun which is full of tranquillisers but when they shoot someone it seems like they have been killed how they full over as well at the beginning of the video you see two pictures, one of some people having a fight and the other of some some very drunk girls sitting in there trash. The last thing is they refer there ad 'for the civilised people and the irish' which may offend the public as well.

Task 3 Advert analysis

This advert Cadburys advert is comedy to sell Cadburys chocolate to the public. This advert makes people laugh and feel cheery.

The place they are in is in a photo shoot.

The main plot to the advert is that it is 2 kids who are about to get there photos done then the man who is taking the photo leaves the frame and they start dancing with there eyebrows with the music.
The types of camera angles used are... Close ups, medium shots, zooming in and out, high angle shots and low angle shots. The reason the developers done this many shots for just two kids sitting down is because

The style of editing is that it is a normal pace at even when the music starts but as the music starts to get quickeer so does the pace of the editing.

The miss-en-sence: Whats in the frame is that it it has all the things for a camera shot and then there is the children, at one point it has the boys watch in a close up only for a brief moment also there was a man who was in the frame but then left to cheek something by the look of it. Finally at the end the girl somewhere gets a pink ballon and uses it to play along with music.

Task 2 Advert styles

Styles of adverts are different and strive away from types of adverts like non-realistic or realistic. Styles of adverts is what they do to grab the audiences attention so that they will buy the product, service or give to charity.

These are the styles: humour, parody, shock, surrealism,

Intertextualit, repetition, sex and famous faces.

Sony Bravia Advert – (Surreal) This is a very surreal and unique advert in terms of the concept and method of creation, as it is an animated advert, which gives a nice look in its self, but it was also made in a busy street whilst people walk on by. Later into the advert the amount of effort which went in to the quality is clear, suggesting a very high budget. This surreal concept gives the audience a very nostalgic and warm feel as for many, this would bring back a lot memories of old animated series in the 90s like Wallace and Gormit. The concept also gives the advert more memorability as people can appreciate the work that went into it and how impressive it looks. Also I think that the style of the advert is very appropriate for the product they are trying to promote, because the reason for the advert is to give the idea of a colourful image of their product, which is shown via the multi-coloured rabbits. This advert is successful because it makes its point, whilst using a very well known and nice looking technique.

John West red salmon Advert – (Humour) Another This advert is very humorous and random in terms of the concept and style. The advert contains a lot of humor as the man fights the bear over some salmon for that he wants to put in a can, but even it gets even funnier when the bear fights back in a funny way as if he is boxing. The hidden style of camera work in this advert gives us the impression that this was a real event, and makes the audience feel in the moment, although it was obviously staged. The common reaction to this advert is at first confusion, and then laughter, proving that this adverts main style is humour. This also makes the advert very memorable and prominent over other ads. This style works for this advert as the concept is very funny and weird, helping the brand name become more know among people who view this ad. The devices used in this advert are successful because they are used in a very original way which helps maintain a strong and humorous image of the brand with the viewers.

Parody. This advert is one in a series of old spice commercials, and each of them more random than the previous. The whole premise of the Old spice ads are to be as random as possible and challenge conventional adverts, which makes them parodies. The common reaction to these ads is to laugh in confusion as a lot of the things that happen in the ads make no sense, which helps add to the memorability of the advert. The is style of advert is appropriate for this product, because they use a ‘dream man’, a horse, a beach etc. which is very normal ideas of what people (some women) want in their life, but men will also want to be like the man in some ways.

Sex Appeal. This advert uses sex appeal (and some humour) to grab the attention of the audience (mainly men), as in the ad there are loads of women in bikinis running towards one man. This style of advertising makes the audience want to look advert a little longer because of the women, which is a smart style which improves how people remember the advert. This style of advertising is definitely appropriate for this product, as Lynx is aimed at a male audience, and therefore will take more notice of sex appeal than other styles. This make the advert very successful, because it suggests that if you use Lynx, you will attract a lot of female attention because of it.

Famous Faces. This advert uses a famous face to help promote Sky. There are many people who look up to David Beckham as a role model, and what this does is helps promote sky, which is using all of Sky’s services. Having a famous face in the advert will also make the advert more memorable as famous people like David have a large following who will spread the word and remember the advert well. This style of advertising is appropriate for the company they are trying to promote, because Sky is a huge company, and by using a famous face in their ad, will remind the audience of that, and that they can provide good services,‘worthy’ of famous people. This advert is very successful as it displays all of Sky’s services whilst showing a famous person use them.

Go Compare (FML) - (Repetition) This advert uses repetition of the company name throughout most of the advert, this technique makes the audience remember the name faster. Many react to this advert negatively as they find it annoying, but this is also a method of making them remember the company name. This style is appropriate for this advert as it gives a clear message about how prominent the company is over others. This also makes the advert successful as more people will remember it, as well as their name. Many different adverts use this style of advertising which annoys people into remembering the advert because of the repetition it uses.

Shock. This advert uses shock to to get their point across about wearing seat belts. This technique shocks the audience into remembering the message of the advert and also gives the audience a surprise, especially in the shots with graphic violence. This make the audience remember the advert more vividly. This technique is appropriate for this ad, because this kind of message requires a more intense and shocking visual aspect in order for people to remember it and take the advice of the advert. This advert is successful, as it gets its moral across and sticks with the viewer more than other adverts.

Skoda Fabia - (Intertexuality) This advert makes the audience feel very a cheerful as the music in the background is music from ‘The Sound of Music’ which many people will recognise and know the music. Also, the clever and creative idea to build a car out of things like cake and jelly so this is referencing to peoples favorite things. These techniques definitely make the advert more memorable and help it stand out from the others. Also this advert helps to sell the slogan of this particular ad ‘Full of lovely stuff. This works for the product as it suggests that the car is quite luxurious and it that you would enjoy it.

Types of adverts Task 1

This advert has a non-realistic theme in it. This advert is animation advert This advert is a realistic advert which relates to normal people in the public. This advert is a plain text advert which is good because its cheap and it goes straight to the point and very cheap. This is a standalone advert which has been only done once by that company and never done it again.
